Desktop Applications

Desktop applications are the traditional applications which you run from your computer, a great example of a desktop application would be Sage or Microsoft Outlook. You launch it from your start menu or double click an icon on your desktop.

The great advantage of a desktop application is they provide a very rich user experience to the user. They allow you to quickly navigate around the software without having to wait for pages to load.

They can also do a lot more things then web applications, an example would be working offline, if you lose your internet connection or network connection, then any desktop applications built on the C.A.F.E engine will work absolutely fine offline. This is a great advantage if you’re out of the office a lot and need access to your database from anywhere without relying on an internet connection.

Web Applications

Web applications are like software programs that run from your web browser, some good examples you may know of are Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Outlook Web Access, Tesco Shopping, Amazon.com

They provide good advantages when used in the correct scenario, one key advantage of them are they can be safely exposed via the internet however offline scenarios aren’t possible on traditional web applications.

Don’t get hung up on the technical jargon, we can help your company with your intranet/extranet. We use a product called Microsoft SharePoint; this is a free software package from Microsoft which we design around.

The great advantage of SharePoint is that as a user you can modify the intranet without having to call us or your IT department. We’ll give you all the training you need around SharePoint if you choose for us to do your intranet, from updating employee forms to creating business processes for your team.

Product Support and Maintenance

Sadly, sometimes software companies go into Administration and existing software products they wrote for your company will in most cases be no longer supported. If this is the case for you then you don’t have to worry.
